SCHOOL OF GROOVE FALL TERM

Register now for the Fall 2014Term!!

Learn repertoire from Cuba, Brazil and parts of Africa while learning some skills on the guitar and various percussion. We have fun discovering vibrant musical traditions while working together to create our own unique arrangements.

School of Groove always features guest teachers like Israel "Toto" Beriel from Matanzas, Cuba offering his expertise in Afro-Cuban percussion, Robin Layne who is a versatile local musician with a background in Classical marimba but has study in places such as Ghana, Cuba and Mexico, and other special guests.

Here is the complete schedule starting on September 6th. You may go to the website to register or be in touch with me if you need more information.

School of Groove Band
Saturday, September 6th - December 13th, 4:00 - 5:30

We also have a performing Youth Mariachi Band that meets Saturday mornings form 10:30 - 12:00. This group requires some experience but we also have an Intro to Mariachi class for those with little experience to give it a try. The performing group travels regularly to Mexico to participate in festivals and workshops. It is a great way to inspire youths and encourage cultural exchange through music.

A projected goal for 2015 is a trip to Cuba for a School of Groove performing group to immerse the students in the culture and sounds of much of our repertoire. I have begun research, which means speaking with all of my Cuban musician friends, finding out the best city to travel to and the best time to go. If you think you would like your child to be a part of this amazing opportunity, please be in touch with me personally. The more organizing and planning help I have the better!
