Programs For Homeschoolers These curriculum-based programs are specially tailored for homeschool families, and include hands-on activities and ideas for extending learning in the homeschool setting. Make it a unique full day experienceJoin Surrey Museum staff for a day of fun, hands-on learning that your homeschooler is unlikely to forget. Sign up for a morning program, enjoy lunch in historic Cloverdale and stay for an afternoon session. Admission to the Museum’s exhibit galleries is by donation so feel free to explore on your own after your program. The Museum offers programs for homeschool student groups in two ways:

Students
learn how pioneer needs were met in a growing community and relate
their experiences of contemporary living in Surrey, one of the fastest
growing cities in Canada. Afterwards,
have lunch in historic Cloverdale and then join Museum staff for an
afternoon session on aboriginal culture. People of the Land (Grades 1 to 4)
Colossal
trees, clear water, an abundance of animals on land and in the ocean –
all were vital to local First Nations peoples. Students explore the
Coast Salish relationship
with the environment, one built on respect and sustainability. Learn
about resource gathering and the importance of the cedar tree, then
enjoy a traditional gathering feast of berries. Christmas Long Ago (Grades 1 to 4)
Jingle
sleigh-bells and carols sung around the fireplace; children experience
how early pioneers celebrated the holidays in Surrey. Visit our 1870s
cabin decorated for an old-time
Christmas, handle real artifacts and make traditional decorations to
put on your tree. Wartime Christmas (Grades 5 to 7)
Discover
how families maintained the Christmas spirit during World War II when
rations, homemade gifts and family members abroad were a reality.
Students listen to a wartime
holiday story in the Museum’s theatre, practice sugar rationing during
an exploration of the Museum Galleries, and make a Christmas cracker to
